rectangular marquee tool is stuck

My rectangular marquee is stuck in some sort of scale restriction mode. It will only do narrow horizontal rectangular selections. How can I free it up? Thankyou.

Are you sure you have the right tool? There is a Single Row and Single Column Marquee. Click and hold on the Marquee to see all the variations.

OR….

Are you on Fixed Size or Fixed Aspect Ration (Options Bar)?
