Having troubles with a registered copy of Photoshop 6, I uninstalled it and when I tried to reinstall, the AutoPlay feature of the CD did not work. I then used Explore to find the Photoshop .exe file and could not find it on the CD. I tried using the Windows Add Programs feature, and it said that it could not find a .exe file on the CD. Called Adobe customer service who referred me to technical support and while they were able to confirm that my CD was registered, they were able to offer no help as the software is outdated. It has been installed 3 times, originally on Windows 2000 and has not been working correctly on Windows XP Home Edition. Can anyone tell me what has happened?

find the photoshop folder on the cd. drag that to the desktop. from that folder on the desktop, run setup.exe.

I tried the dragging but still could not find an .exe file. Also looked through all the folders on the CD for the .exe file. It has disappeared!

Is "Hide Known File Extentions" perhaps ticked in folder properties?
Could you find the Photoshop folder that Dave suggested?

what rob said first. make sure you can view extension. second, you're not looking for photoshop.exe, you're looking for setup.exe in the photoshop folder. copy that folder from the disk to the desktop. then run setup.exe from the photoshop folder on the desktop.

Dave, PS 6 is so old, it may even be "INSTALL.COM"!

don't laugh. i just found my old "battlechess" disk and played a game. yes, it WAS in fact, INSTALL.COM. also needed emm to run and himem.sys. 'member THOSE?!! :)

Still have a fried Tandy TRS-80 and a VIC-20 and a teletype machine.

Well, I'm not 150 years old, but the first computer I worked on (repair MOS in the Army) did have the "advanced" design feature of removable circuit boards... with transistors mounted on the boards
Biggest problem was heat generation... most of the time in actual use, the case was removed so the thing didn't stop running due to heat induced parity errors

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I guess I am going to give up. I have tried everything and nothing works.
There is a file called Setup which is an Application file, and is called a 32-bit Setup Launcher, version 5.50.137.0, and in the Setup Properties Box, the Compatibility tab suggests running it in an earlier version if you have problems. For me, that was Windows 2000, but that doesn't get anything going either.
Someone told me that sometimes CDs just self destruct, which makes me awfull mad as this is the most expensive software I have ever bought, and have only installed 3 or 4 times when I have upgraded my hardware! I never upgraded because it did everything I needed.
I may try again to get something from Adobe. Thanks again---

That's the one we're talking about, and your system indeed hides extensions. Did you try and execute it?
Someone told me that sometimes CDs just self destruct
Do you believe that? They wear or get lost or break but they don't self destruct.

Rose, have you considered taking a look at the readme files on the disk to see exactly what operating systems PS 6 will run under? I believe the product was designed to run under Win98, W2K, and Win NT 4.0 SP4 or higher.
PS6 worked for you under W2K, but now has problems installing on an XP system. I should think the disk is not corrupt since it worked on W2K.

I did look at the readme files this afternoon, and while it does not mention higher than Windows 2000, it did say that it needed an Intel system which I have.
It was not working well on XP which was why I tried to reinstall it.
And the setup file was the first one that I went to when the AutoPlay didn't work, but it doesn't get anything started. I have tried many times, and occasionally the CD player will sound like it is going to load the program, but nothing happens. I even tried it on another computer today and that didn't work either.

Again: first copy the "Photoshop" folder to your Desktop, then execute "Setup.exe" from there.
