Can't save not enough memory (RAM). Try saving without Optimized

Hi,

My boss's computer (gateway) is having this problem. When ever he tries to crop something and then save it as a jpg he gets this error message.
He has CS3 vs. 10.0.01 he has 1.48gig of RAM - scratch disk is 704mb 63% and has 105gig free space. Disk where image is being saved has 12 gig free - has anyone experienced this before?

What % is allocated under Preferences > Performance?

Read the full error message and follow the instructions given in that error message.

This is not all that difficult.

As I said in my initial message under preferences/performance - 63% 704mb of RAM.

The problem is that I used to be able to save jpg as "Optimized" and now I can't. I want to know why this is happening and fix it. So you see following the error message direction are a bit more complicated than that.

No you said "he has 1.48gig of RAM - scratch disk is 704mb 63%" – Scratch disk is not RAM! That fooled me.

What are the actual image sizes? Using the "Optimized" option can easily boost RAM usage 6 times over the original as it needs to store the pre-compression analysis differently. Also disable the "Preview" function on the file saver to free up a little more memory...

This error has been reported in the forums before and there has been no clear solution other than to use standard baseline compression.

If you want to assume this is any different than the other situations reported here, it would help to know system version, processor, image size, etc.

I do apologize for misleading you.

This are raw files 10 megapixel files that are then cropped down to 300 DPI at 8x11". I'm sorry I can't tell you the actual size of the image since it won't save as "Optimized."

Question: CS3 has a min RAM req of 1 gig - then why suddenly can't my boss do an Optimized jpg save when he has 1.48gig?

I can't tell you the actual size of the image since it won't save as "Optimized."

300 ppi at 8.5x11 is what size we were looking for and should work as an optimized JPG (in a bug-free world). Some of the other reports on this forum involve images much larger and that is typically why saving to an optimized JPG file fails.

here is the way u can select baseline standard or baseline optimized. and then u can save the file with no problem at all
