Colouring individual guide lines

Wouldn't it be handy to be able to colour guide lines individually? I notice there are some lines called smart lines but I can't find out how to show those. Apparantly they automatically appear when you draw but I haven't seen them yet (I'm using CS2 on Windows XP Professional - I've read that CS3 doesn't seem to want to show them). But that doesn't sound like what I want anyway. I just want to be able to colour individual guide lines. Is that possible folks?

You have to turn Smart Guides on. And CS3 is just the same.

You can't colour the normal guides individually – just change the overall colour in Preferences. You can make the Smart Guides a different colour too.

Oh I have got the Smart Guides ticked. Can't get them to put in an appearance though. Is it a case 'instructions not up to the mark' again?

They appear when you are trying to align two objects.

Yes, I've seen them now, but I can't figure out what they are aligning to. Doesn't appear to be centering. Anyway, I'll hopefully figure it out and find a use for them with more practice. Thanks John.
