Any help with Stochastic (FM screen) Screen

Image > Mode > Grayscale
Image > Mode > Bitmap > Diffusion Dither + Choose ppi

The result is printable only for very low ppi. Otherwise the Bitmap and the printer screening will interact and create Moiré patterns.

It's perhaps Floyd-Steinberg Dithering, which is deterministic without a random (stochastic) component. The word 'stochastic' is often abused.

Gernot,

Thanks for the reply, do you know if there is a plugin available to allow me to use Floyd-Steinberg Dithering method.

Or could you point me in a direction that may help

Thanks

Steve,

sorry, don't know a plug-in.
Once I had programmed this stuff:
<http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/hilb010101.pdf> But I don't know how to make Photshop plug-ins.
Please use for this doc in Acrobat 72dpi (not 96) and
view by zoom=100% or occasionally zoom=200% (pixel-
synchronized graphics).

Henry R.Kang had written good books about 'halftoning'.

Not sure if this plugin does what you want but try 'India Ink' at flamingpear.com. Barb

Floyd-Steinberg (Diffusion Dither) is useless for high resolution work.

I have a plugin which produces a good quality stochastic for lithography or contact printing: <http://telegraphics.com.au/sw/#rastus>

Demo downloadable there, or contact me if you want to evaluate it.

My rather good RIP ColorGate ProductionServer
offers Floyd-Steinberg as one of several options
for halftoning.

Again: books by Henry R.Kang about halftoning...
