When I use the eyedropper, it functions in reverse. When I left-click the mouse the color is recorded for the background, not foreground as it was previously. When the ALT key is used with the left-click, the foreground is affected, which is the reverse of the way it was originally.

Also, when using the brush tool, hitting ALT + left-click affects the background. So, to use this tool I must click on the switch-colors icon in the toolbox to reverse the position every time I use the brush tool in this manner.

How can I put the function back to its original default?

Go to your Color Pallet and click on foreground. You currently have Background selected. Then your eyedropper will function as you expect.

If your mouse is functionally normally in other applications– Check a few–

…..all together now…..

Delete the preferences file– it sounds like it got corrupted.

edjd’s tip worked (click color pallette foreground square). Out of curiosity, what is the filename of the preferences file (Windows version)?
