Hi All,
Out of action on CS2 for over a week now. I 'rolled back' to an April restore point. Still no success but different messages.
Programme loads then: Could not load default gradients because the file could not be found.' Then same with, Patterns, Contours, Styles, Custom Shapes and tool presets. Finishes up with Could not initialize Photoshop because a required text resource file is missing.
After restoring to an earlier date duplicates of some of the folders have been made. These are named like this: [Adobe help center(2)(2)].
Sorry to bore you all at the week end!
Any ideas?
Regards
John
WXP SP2 CS2 1GB RAM.

uninstall everything then delete all the photoshop related folder left over, including the duplicates, then reinstall from disc.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for that.
Do I have to uninstall Adobe reader as well, or just the CS2 items?
I'll have a go anyway in the morning. Bedtime here! [GB]

i'd say just photoshop.

Hi Dave,
Done that!
Back to the original problem again.
An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application.
I can use Image Ready, open and save images. When I try to open Adobe Bride I get the following error.
Adobe Bridge cannot be used at this time because of licensing restrictions. You must have installed and launched at least one other Adobe application to use Adobe Bridge. This is with Image Ready already open and in use.
All very strange an somewhat annoying.
Any help appreciated.
Have opened case in Adobe support panel. My case is now pending and has been since last week. Case #0180160291. Do Adobe ever answer these queries?

John

have you tried resetting the preferences per the faq? <

Hi Dave,
I've reset preferences a shed load of times! Dosen't seem to make any difference.
Now back to working on PS7, without Photomerge and a few other trusted friends.
Tried updating PS7 this morning to 7.01 no luck. Error says it can't find PS7.

Hi Dave,
Yes, I've done that several times but it dosen't seem to make any difference.
I did try loading CS2 into a clean folder : C:/Program files(2). This made no difference at all. I can't see how Image Ready works fine and Photoshop won't.
I'm not a Computer whiz only a photographer who needs Photoshop for his work. Being out of action for a week or so is very annoying as you can imagine.
Still in the dark.
Regards
John.

Hi Dave,
Back again, I've done that. I deleted the *.psp files. There were two preferences files.
Still with the same problem.
I've downloaded Revo uninstaller, that washes whiter than white!
Might give it a try this evening, when I've time to pick up the bits!
Regards
John.

Good morning Dave,
Hope you slept well!
I've uninstalled Adobe CS2,Bridge 1.0 and Stock Photos 1.0 using the Revo washer! Don't remember having to uninstall Bridge and Stock Photo's separately before. I then went back to preferences in the application data folder and removed all the Adobe CS folders.
I've installed again from disk, but same problem persists.
I tried an Install on top with the 'Repair' option via Windows Control Panel. This took some time then I had to 'Activate' the application again via Adobe London.
With trepidation I opened the application. BINGO! All seems to be well and I'm up and running again. Don't know what part of the sequence played its part in solving the problem.
Thanks for your help and suggestions
Will be working late tonight!
Regards
John

Try installing the latest version of Flash.
#11
Hi Michael,
Sorry, don't understand. What part does 'flash' have in this saga!
Regards
John

The Flash Player for your browser. The installer uses Flash (and presumably IE), and if you have an old version of Flash installed, you may have problems. Download and install it here <

Hi Michael,
Done that. Thanks for the info.
All is well, I've even updated CS2 to 9.02 without problems
