Not exactly sure of what you want, but you can add border area using canvas size, or just add a border around a selection with edit-stroke.
The stroke did work to put a box around some type, but the edges of the box/border were slightly cut off.
Also I’m familiar with canvas size, but I’m trying to create a border on a layer I can later delete if I want. Canvas size seems to be more permanent. Thanks
I played with stroke some more and I see that if you go on the inside of the selection, it doesn’t cut the corner off.
I’m still trying to figure out how to use the border option without it being feathered. Thanks
Create a new blank layer.
Make sure the new layer is selected.
Drag out a selection the size you want your border.
Fill the selection with any color you want.
Deselect the new box.
Layer>layer style>stroke.
Select the color for the border and size.
Set position to inside for sharp corners (Doing so can put the border over top your image). While you are still in the layer styles panel – click on Blending options and find Advanced blending – Fill opacity – Set to 0 (note this can also be changed on the layers palette where it says fill).
