Why no lighten/darken blending modes in Lab?

Right. I was wondering the rationale behind that.

I haven’t given it a thought for the other blends, but Lighten and Darken modes would apear to be redundant in LAB, since LAB provides a separate Luminance (or Lightness) channel with all chromatic data in the other two channels.
