Dropshadow not showing up?

Hey all,

I'm new to using Photoshop and I have a problem that's got me stumped. I'm sure it's a simple fix, but I honestly can't figure this out. When I apply a drop shadow effect to an object over a black background.......the "shadow" part doesn't show up on top of the black layer...it shows up behind it. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your time...

are you viewing the results at 100% zoom level?

If the shadow is black how do you expect it to show up over a black background?
#4
Did I say the shadow was black? If so, I didn't mean to. lol The object and shadow are both a light blue color over the black background.
#5
the "object" of course is on a separate layer from the "background"?
#6
Yes, it is on a totally separate layer on TOP of the black background. :)

What is the Blending Mode of your shadow? If it is the default Multiply, it will not be visible, since multiplying anything with black yields black.

Try setting the mode to something like Screen or Lighten.

I feel stupid. That's what it was. I had the blending option set to multiply and not normal. Geez......I'm a dunce. Thanks for the help, all.
