If I open a new file with transparent background, I create some text, and I then file it as a transparent gif, when I display that file on a black background, I see tiny flecks of white around the edges of the text. (I am using photoshop 5.5.) Why does this happen? Is there anyway to eliminate the white?

Transparency in GIF images is limited to one color, and there is no way to anti-alias that to make smooth gradations.

One solution is to use a matte color that is the same as your background color (or a common color if your background consists of multiple colors).
