Reducing file size to meet 35K web banner requirements

Hi,

I have a 120x600px, 4 frame rotating ad that I built in Photoshop CS3. The file size of the .psd file is 1.95MB. I have tried to reduce it to meet the web banner ad requirement of 35K, but am beginning to wonder if that is even possible.

I have played around with the settings in the Save for Web & Devices dialog box, but in order to get it below 35K, I had to reduce the colors to 8. This produced a really bad qualtiy gif image.

Is there any way to reduce a file of this size down that small without totally losing quality?

If not, is there any way to reduce the overall .psd size without having to eliminate all of the nice effects that I have (drop shadows, textures, animation, etc.)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated,

Drop shadows and textures are your enemy. Design with solid colors with minimal noise to get a file size that small.

A 600x120 gif can be as small as 411 bytes ... if it is just one solid color. Using a patterned background though, with alternating black and white areas, and it goes up to 17.17K. And you need four of these in your animation.

To keep to something very simple, you are going to need to be very basic. The best way to reduce the size would be to go down to two or three frames, rather than 4.

I agree with Olaf. Those sites will provide you a download link which you could instead email or pm to your intended recipient so they can download the file instead over the net and not worry about having a huge file as I know they will allow you to upload a maximum file size of 200MB. And the good thing about this is, it is free.
