Upgrading to CS3 from PhotoShop 7

Hi. Please allow me to ask a dumb question. Can I simply purchase the current CS3 basic package to update from PhotoShop 7? I have heard a couple different things, some about the beta actually, that confused me.

Yes you can upgrade from Photoshop 7 to Photoshop CS3( version 10 )

The best place to get authoritative advice on your upgrade options is from Adobe themselves.

Note: CS3 is the last version to which you can upgrade from version 7. With the CS3 round of upgrades, Adobe has also introduced a "no more than 3 versions back" rule for upgrade eligibility i.e. as upgrade rules now stand, Version 7 will not be eligible for an upgrade to CS4 (or whatever it may be called).
