Hi. I'm new to Photoshop CS3 and am wondering how to place a photo of a house inside an orb/circle, with a nice border and a drop shadow to the bottom right. Thanks.

Depends on what you want to do. Do you want a circular frame or do you want it to look like the house is actually in a ball? Do you want any distortion or reflections?
You can make a Clipping Mask or a layer Mask to do these things. The most basic thing would be to make a circular Marquee around your image and click the Mask icon in the Layers palette.
