File size actually increasing when trying to reduce

I am trying to reduce the size of jpg by going to image size and lowering the number of pixels. My Mac is showing me that the jpg is 8KB but when I go to Image Size it says that the size is nwo 42KB under pixel dimensions. Why is it not the 8KB that it should be?

The file size showing there under image size is the uncompressed size

when you compress it into a jpg it will reduce considerably
