PSE cannot distinguish between your camera or any other storage device when connected. So you have to turn-off the auto start when a storage device is connected.

For PSE5, from the Organizer:

Edit->Preferences->Camera or Card Reader, then unselect the "Auto Launch" from the Download Options.

You'll then have to manually start PSE whenever you connect your Canon EOS 350D.
