Is it possible to save a PSD with a single layer and a transparent background, to a Targa file with an alpha channel? How do I do it?

Select the layer's transparency.

Save the selection as a new channel.

Flatten the image.

Save as a Targa file.

If you are using PS 7 be sure to update to 7.0.1 where they restored the Targa with Alpha support they had left out.
