graphic tablet

I use PSE 3 and am considering purchasing a graphic tablet to assist primarily in editing/modifying photographs. My limited research indicates that Wacom tablets should be a strong candidate. How about size? 3 x 5 versus 6 x8 And would the extra cost of a higher end tablet, e.g Wacom Intuos (?), versus Wacom Graphfire be justified for such use?

Comments appreciated especially from current users of graphic tablets.

I suggest using one of the Graphire models. If you were heavy into photo editing, then perhaps a Intuos3 model. Your budget and experience level should be considered. I have a 4x5 model, but there are times a 6x8 seem like it would be more useful. You need to look at your work area, your physical attributes, and decide what size would best fit your needs.

Just curious. I have an Intuos 3 and never use the
entire 4x5 pad or whatever the smallest pad is.
For me anything that makes me lift my hand loses
some of its usefulness. I would like a pad more
sensetive than the Intuos and would feel the
difference quite a bit to go back to a Graphire.
Am I missing something?

I mentioned physical attributes, well I have large hands and feel I need more movement than a 4x5 can offer. Desk space, physical attributes or limitations, and personal preference seem to dictate which size one should purchase. For me, I have a 4x5 and wish I had gotten a 6x8. As for Intuos 3 vs Graphire, the Intuos is by far a better graphics tablet. Since Chuck is using PSE3 in his photo work, I felt that the Graphire would be more than adequate. BTW, I suggest that for most photographers the Intuos may be overkill. I have yet to find a need for 1024 sensitivity levels when doing photo editing. But then again, I'm a hobbyist and my demands are not as great as others.

Do you use the whole pad or a part of it? I use
about 1/4 th.
