"Application Failed to Initialize Properly" error kills program before it starts!

I'm repeatedly getting this error- "Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate application" now when I try to start PhotoShop Extended.

I'm guessing that it has something to do with my system fonts (because when it does run it dies if I try to change keyboard shortcuts and I've read that that's usually due to system fonts), but I really don't know!

Please, PLEASE, PLEASE can someone suggest how to fix this?!?!

{Oh, fwiw, all other parts of CS3 seem to run okay...}

Thanks in advance!

If you bought PS Extended over eBay, or have a disk marked "Made in Singapore", there's a good possibility that the program is both pirated and defective.

If it is a genuine copy, try deleting your preference files manually in accordance with the Forum FAQ.

I never heard of a connection between keyboard short-cuts and system fonts but you could try a font repair utility or TweakUI if you think it would help.

First of all, it's a genuine copy bought directly from Adobe, and gee thanks so much for assuming that I pirated a copy!

Secondly, the keyboard short-cuts and system fonts "connection" is my fault. That's actually mentioned on the Premiere forum, not Photoshop's! My bad...

Oddly enough, however, after "unloading" and actually deleting some fonts, and doing nothing else different, I'm not getting the error which prompted this topic in the first place!

I'm always suspicious of "auto-fix" solutions, so I do appreciate the idea of deleting the preference files. Should the problem re-occur I will no doubt try that!

Thanks again,

Jim

There has recently been a spate of defects posted here, many of which have been traced back to a large batch of very authentic-looking copies of Photoshop bought from eBay.

Hence Michael's question. He didn't assume anything, he just hoped you weren't another victim!

Sorry I mis-read the situation. Thanks for the explanation!

John was exactly right. I didn't intend to seem like I was assuming you were a pirate. There have been many complaints about photoshop not working right in various ways that seem to have either Ebay or "Made in Singapore" as common elements, pointing to innocent purchases of defective pirated software that is very authentic looking, in the box with disk, serial number labels, and printed manuals. Since you bought directly from Adobe, that's not the issue.

Other than deleting the preference file manually, my suggestion would be to do a repair installation.
