CS2 keyboard shortcuts do not work

I just installed CS2 on my computer, and the keyboard shortcuts that I am used to using in CS do not work. When I try to change any of the shortcuts in the keyboard settings, strange things happen. If I want to change the "Zoom In" shortcut, I hold down the CTRL key and click the "+" key, but an k shows up instead. Strange, because the shortcut then works, however, others still do not, regardless of what I put in the keyboard settings. Anyone know about this and in particular a solution?
