How to create watermark?

Just wondering how to create a watermark in CS8. Then what do I need to do so that I can add this watermark to a batch of photos? I have the basic concept down (I think) from my old laptop that had Photoshop 7. I wasn’t able to recover any files from the old computer before it melted down.
