Hi

I don’t see thumbnail images of my .psd files in Windows Explorer when using CS3. Is this normal? If not, is there a way to enable thumbnail view?

Try this…….

The psd thumbnail view is not included by design in the lastest version of photoshop. To restore this feature follow these steps:
1. Download psicon.dll from DLL Dump
2. Place the DLL in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell\
3. Thumbnail previews of PSD files are now back

Here is the link to the dll:

If you’re using the psicon.dll hack be aware that you’re doing so at your own risk. Losing work is not fun at all.

I would suggest you learn to use Bridge.

Hi Bob

I like to view all my images in explorer. As I have a fix that also permits RAW files from my Digital Cameras to be viewed as thumbnails also it is more convenient for me to do the same with PS Files.

Also, as the facility existed in previous PS Versions why leave it out? Seems a nonsense to me.

They "left it out" because of a confilct with the OS which can stop you saving your file. It may work fine – for ages. Of course, when it does occur, it will be on the most important image ever!

Bridge is good.

Bridge is good

But still flawed and buggy. Take a trip to the Bridge forum and be appalled!

I’m still waiting for it to completely replace Windows ExploderExplorer.

When Bridge works it is great. When it eats your files (like entire directories) or hangs the system or just disappears for no apparent reason, it bites the big one.

Maybe they’ll fix it about the time they fix the printing problems?

D’you know John (and Sid) I have to admit I’ve never had a problem with Bridge. I regularly look in on the Bridge forums and yes some folks are having issues. But I really do think Bridge is pretty good on the whole, when run on a properly maintained system.

That said. I must admit that in the last couple of months, Lightroom has all but completely taken over from Bridge for me.

It took a while to get my head around a completely different approach, but now I feel I am working mainly in Lightroom, with a quick trip into PS for the final edits.

My perfect program would be a Photoshop which had Lightroom as its browser/database/raw processor.

But I guess whilst Adobe can sell both, it’ll never happen.
