Change color of line tool

I have PSE 3 and am trying to figure out how to change the color of the Line Tool. I have some text on an image and I would like to make a box around the text in a color other than black, so it will stand out. Thanks for the help.

Ted,

The color of your Line tool should change with your Foreground color.

There is also a color picker on the Options bar of the Line tool.

Ted,

Another way is to use the rectangular marquee tool and make a selection the size and shape you want. Be sure the foreground color is the color you want. Then go to Edit>Stroke, choose 1 or 2 pixels (if you want it to look like a narrow pencil line), pick foreground and then OK. This will give you a neat box for your text.

My foreground color always seems to be black or some shade of gray. You are refering to the small pair of boxes in the lower left of the window aren't you? The only time I see the color I want is when I close the program out. If I understand correctly, I can't actually make colored lines where I want them. I'm not wanting a box in some cases. When I click on the small boxes in the lower left, I get the color picker, but after I click OK in the box, I end up with the grayish hues rather than the color I wanted. Maybe I just don't understand how to work the tool.

Ted,

Check to be sure your image is in RBG mode.

Also, check to be sure you do not have an adjustment layer active when trying to set your colors.

You image mode is Grayscale. Change the mode to RGB Color. [Image/Mode]

For me, the color picker in the Options bar seems to have priority over the the Foreground color box.

Try choosing a color from the Option bar when Line Tool is selected.

You right. I'm not sure of the priority algorithm ...

I want to thank you folks for the direction to head in solving my problem. There is a huge information overload for me with this program. I just can't remember it all. I have to keep notes.

Ted,

I still have a note book ... and find it very useful :)

They also wanted a separate Mac / Win forum.

Will we see, next year, a PowerPC / Intel / Mac / Win separation as well ? (just kidding!)
