How to cut around a photo of someone

Hi guys Im new to Photoshop and want to know how i can cut around an image of someone so I can paste their picture into a different background???

wow. just posted this in another thread. well, here it is again… 🙂

blending: a quickie:

make a selection (marquee tool, quick mask, etc).
copy and to a new layer (crtl-c, crtl-v).
create a layer mask (little icon at the bottom of the layers palette). apply filter> blur> gaussian blur to that mask
apply image> adjustments> levels to that mask.

Which version of Photoshop are you using?

Just a side note. Instead of Ctrl+C followed by Ctrl+V, just use Ctrl+J!
