shape tool

Hi

According to thehelp file and the web when I draw a rectangle using the shape tool it should create a new layer with a layer mask shown together with a thumnail of the colour of the fill.

My system draws the rectangle without creating a new layer and does not fill it.

As far as I'm aware I've not changed any settings, can soome one suggest why?

I haven't tried the options, I'm still on the learning curve,using a bible and the help file which in my case is fairly grim. It seems that because I have the web suite my help file is different to pure photoshop users!.

As to editing my posts as I use OE news reader don't see how I can edit my posts

Off to play with shapes and gradients!
