Impact of dual channel memory on image processing

Not sure if this is the best forum for this question, but I figured someone here would know the answer.

I'm configuring an Intel/Windows system. Among its primary tasks will be to handle image manipulation, batch processing and RAW file conversion, using Photoshop and other apps. I just need to know if the presence of dual channel memory has much of an impact on these processes over a non-dual channel memory configuration, and how much in terms of a percentage increase in performance.

Rules of thumb: the faster the memory system, the faster Photoshop will run. The more RAM you have, the faster Photoshop will run (up to the OS limit of 2 gig per application).

Per process. You could create an application that is built from interacting processes, each with its own 2GB address space. But there are not many machines available with enough memory to really benefit from that.
