Hi. Is there a way in Photoshop CS3 to convert a raster image (photo) into a pointillism style image? I see these black and white graphics of prominent people in the Wall Street Journal whose images are made up of tiny dots — very artistic. How is this done? Thanks.

How far down the list of filters did you look? Did you stop before you got to… erm…

Pointillize?

If that isn’t what you’re looking for, try converting to Greyscale and then Bitmap in Image > Mode. Then select Halftone Screen with a pattern you fancy.

Glad to help.

(And I don’t even read the Wall Street Journal. B) )

The pictures in the WSJ are done by hand, with pen and ink.

That’s a very interesting article Danny, but I don’t think Alex will be spending 5 hours doing each one by hand!

Afterthought: Even if he had the artistic skills and materials!
