I have CS2 and would like to creat a simple heart shped vignette with the outer area fading to a white background. How do I achieve this please?

Use the custom shape tool to make a heart-shaped path. Turn it into a selection. Feather it.

You might have to put an "invert selection" step into John's steps. And at the end, of course, you press delete to get the vignette.

Alternatively, create a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and get creative with the three sliders and the "Colorize" checkbox.
The layer mask will automatically be based upon the feathered selection.

My idea was to make the vignette in a new file and do a Paste Into.
