You need to put the .abr brush files in the brushes folder

something like the following path...

C:\Program Files\adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Brushes

Actually you can put them anywhere and load them using the flyout arrow on the Brushes palette: Load Brushes. But putting them in the Presets>Brushes folder makes the most sense because you can load them by simply selecting the name on the flyout menu.

And while you're at it check out Edit>Presets Manager for organizing Presets.

....and finally, you can drag/drop one or more .abr files from the Explorer window into Photoshop's window to "auto load" the brushes, thereby bypassing the "Load Brushes..." dialog.

Good old Photoshop and the "three method" syndrome!

Thanks! I have one file that's a PSD file not an ABR file. Do I open and select each brush bit and add that way????

If it's a psd file it's not a Brushes file. You can make the images into brushes but I think maybe you downloaded the wrong file.

Where did it come from?
