Are the filters there but grayed out? Is the file 16 bits per channel?
Did you try trashing/resetting Preferences?
I have tried it in both 8 and 16 bit modes. In 16 bit there are some filters grayed out but I am not trying those. Gaussian blur is supposed to be functional in either mode.
I did not try resetting the preference file but I couldn’t see anything in there that would affect the filter operations. I will give that a go.
By resetting preferences, Ed didn’t mean to go into the Preferences screen and resetting manually to the defaults; he meant deleting the preferences file by one of the methods in the FAQ. Everything might appear to be right when you look at the preferences, even though the preferences file is corrupt and causing problems seemingly unrelated to the items shown in the preferences screen.
I am also having problems with some of the filters. CS3 installed on a brand new Dell XPS 710 computer. The Blur and artistic filters are not grayed out but when you try to run them nothing happens. The other filters work OK.
???
Lisa: how are you determining that "nothing happens"? Are you viewing your file at 100%? Have you tried resetting the prefs as suggested above?
I’ve just observed the same problem on my desktop PC, with filters such as those in the Artistic category not being invoked when selected in CS3. However, they work fine if applied via the Filter Gallery. My desktop misbehaves in this fashion while my laptop works as expected. Both are running WinXP and have similar software installations, so it is hard to pin down the cause. Since the Filter Gallery approach worked, it was mostly just a minor nuisance as invoking an individual filter launches the Filter Gallery anyway, with initial focus on the specific filter chosen. In any case, resetting the preferences did correct the problem.
