I am trying to open a picture that I made from video that I shot using a JVC Everio HDD camcorder. I get an error message that states:

Could not open "file name" because an invalid second SOI or SOFn JPEG marker is found.

Any ideas on how to get the photo to open?

Try a Swiss-Army-Knife utility app like IrfanView <http://www.irfanview.com/>.

Those are "start of image" and "start of frame" markers that should be present in the JPG file. For some reason they either didn’t get created, or were stripped. Are you opening the files locally from your computer’s hard drive or directly on the camera? Are you sure the source files are in JPG format? Can you open them in any other software and re-save them as a different format?
