Photoshop dialog boxes are 'offscreen' after going from two monitors to one

sorry, its long... typically work from two monitors at once, and when i switch to one monitor (such as when working mobile on my laptop as opposed to having my lcd screen and a second crt at the office) anything that sat on the second monitor, such as a color setting prompt when i open an image, or a hue/saturation box - doesnt appear on the single monitor. it is as if it is 'off screen', but even when i up my display's resolution to get a larger desktop, reset my control panel for one monitor, or after saying 'reset pallets to their default locations' - i cannot get them back.

on my laptop its a minor inconvienience - i have to remember to move dialog boxes back to my primary monitor before i shut down. but on my home computer photoshop has been completely disabled. while moving recently, my second crt monitor was broken. i am down to one monitor on which certain boxes arnt showing up and i can't use the program. ive reinstalled, reinstalled again after removing photoshops registry settings, and i still cant get my boxes back. using latest program with patches.

what can i do?

(!--- anyone with this similar problem, i found the solution later in the FAQ's. reset your photoshop settings by holding ALT+SHIFT+CNTL as you begin loading photoshop. say 'yes' to reset the settings.

Mike,

Photoshop was supposed to force dialogs onto the screen. It doesn't (yet - we're hoping it will in v8).

In the meantime, see the FAQ called "Dialog Box Missing".

Peace,

a workaround to completely resetting the prefs might be to SAVE 2 sets of prefs (one for dual and one for single monitors) with the dialogs all in the right place. i.e. get everything right. exit ps, copy those prefs to a seperate location. repeat for the other set up, copy those out too. then if you get stuck, move the correct version of the prefs in and off you go. as tony said, this has been addressed by adobe and we're hoping it'll be fixed in v8 (wow!)

I have a similar problem - however, it's not that palettes that are off screen it's dialog windows. Like when I create a new action, that box is off screen. Or if I try a batch action, I can't select anything because it's off screen. Same with Image size and new image.

Any suggestions on that?

Don't get me started Dave. It's a delicate balancing act between politeness and murder.
