DPI Changes

When saving a bitmap from photoshop regardlss of it's resolution, when I view the properties of the image (in Bridge or windows picture viewer) the DPI drops by a value of 1 for a given DPI.

Eg: If 600 dpi = 599 dpi
300 dpi = 299 dpi
72 dpi = 71 dpi

Im not worried about printing or viewing for web, just want to know why this occurs, and only when saving a bitmap, a jpeg works fine.

I just saved a bitmap image in CS2 and see no such discrepancy.

Are you using Ps Cs3? Vista?

???

Puzzling indeed. As I mentioned I am not seeing what you are seeing on my WinXP Pro machine running CS2.

(shot in the dark) Have you tried resetting the PS preferences?

Reset everything... It is most bizzarre!

Its only on bitmaps, and trust me I have tried all values of dpi's, even tried putting it at say 73dpi but it still returns as 71dpi!

well, i can take a whack at it... do you have your default measurements set to metric and you're trying to view resolution in english?

All default as per the install...

Just so you know that you are not alone, I also get results identical to yours. If I re-open the bitmap in Photoshop CS3 and check Image Size, however, the resolution is reported as 300dpi, even though the Properties indicate 299 dpi. It seems to me that this is a quirk of no real significance, although puzzling.
