I’m running Vista 64 with 8 gigs of RAM, and was wondering if there is, or any plans for, a 64 bit version of Photoshop that could use more than 3 gigs.
Thanks.

Eric:

Seems that Vista Ultimate 64 will give any app up to 6GB of RAM with 8GB in place and up to 3.12GB of RAM with 4Gb in place. Apparently the little memory thingie in PS doesn’t really do much other than request a minimum amount RAM be set aside by the OS. You do not need the PAE or 3GB switch in the boot.ini. With Ultimate 64, either switch can cause problems.

Be installing VU64 next week when the parts I ordered arrive.

As per my message above a system with 8GB of RAM:

Without /3GB or /PAE set:
App gets 2GB and OS only sees 4GB memory

With just /3GB set:
App gets 3GB, OS only sees 4GB

With just /PAE set:
App gets 2GB and OS benefits from full 8GB memory

With /3GB and /PAE set:
App gets 3GB and OS benefits from full 8GB memory

64-bit OS (32-bit Application):
App gets 4GB and OS benefits from full 8GB memory

Just to clear up all the crap that has been floating around here regarding this matter.
