Lost Thumbnails

In Bridge, I did a cut and paste from one directory to another and lost my thumbnails for the files in the receiving directory. I regained them by opening and resaving the images, but is there any way to avoid this loss in the future?

BTW, I am using CS2 and its version of Bridge.
