This is beyond stupid…I apologize: somehow I have "lost" the thin long palette usually at the top of the screen which allows tool options to be set. For example, if the ‘Paint Brush’ tool is selected its opacity is then able to be set in this palette. I must have dragged it somewhere and cannot retrieve it…unless….

Sorry again…thanks.

Look in the Window menu … near the bottom of the list … and check "Options".

Thank you.

(You know, I actually tried that and it didn’t become visible…perhaps I dragged it off the screen? but then you inspired me to try Window>Workspace>Basic and it reappeared…I guess that is good enough…still don’t know what happened, but, thank you all the same.)
