No and no.
Where is the file from? What program created it? If it’s from a vector program, that’s what you should use to open it.
The file was made in Indesign. So Eps files are not layered? thanks
I’m working with flash. So it would be easier if I had a layered file. Can you save indesign files as layered files viewable in photoshop?
thanks
You can Place EPS files – smart objects (what version of PS are you using?).
Then export the layers as separate files.
However, Illustrator can open the EPS files.
Your workflow is a bit back to front though.
You’ll find it not so easy to open ID generated EPS files in Illy.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think ID eps files can be layered.
I believe they are pixel-based so they will be rasterized.
As far as I know, eps files don’t "really" support layers or transparency, at least not in the way Photoshop understands such things.

No problems for me Bob, however, PDF files do import with greater editability (blending modes intact, etc – though strokes are made into seperate objects.
Ed, ID shapes are vector based (CS2 anyways), and import as such into Illy.
Okay. I’m a bit behind (Photoshop CS, ID 2 and Illustrator 10). The technology has overtaken me and left me in the dust.
The technology has also left postscript in the dust. The new Adobe PDF Print Engine should be enough to kill it altogether….I hope.
