trying to copy a section, however app is giving "this section is locked", thats all the info I have can anyone assist?

Are you working on the background layer (the one with a padlock)? If so, turn it into a regular layer (double-click on it in the layer palette, and click on Ok).
Otherwise, what mode is the picture in? RGB, Indexed colours, etc ?

Thanks for that Ray, the User had indeed locked the background Layer. Thanks for taking the time out to reply.

Damian,
A Background layer is always locked and therefore not completely editable. A double click and rename will open up all editing possibilities.

Many Thanks Nancy, I will inform the user - I think she is new to the application and as I have no working knowledge of Photoshop as well as other apps and OS's I was pretty much stuck for this support call.
