After a clean install of CS3 I encountered:
Adobe Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
This happens when either opening a file or creating a new file.
CS2 runs fine.
Anybody experience this or know a solution.
Thank You

Have you tried deleting your prefs? Hold down ctrl+alt+shift on launch.

Tried that - same problem. I did try installing on another machine and it was successful. Now I need to figure out what software/service is causing the error on my initial machine. I tried selective startup and running with most services diabled but still had the error. I guess it will be a long debugging process.

got the same problem. It is on a laptop with Intel graphics. (Amilo 1520) I wonder the graphic card isn't fast enough????

I had the exact same problem, it turned out to be my printer:

Hey guys, I am still having this problem. I've went as far as re-imaging my machine. The only apps I have installed are Nero, Zone Alarm and CS3. I still can not get CS3 to stay running. It almost appeared to be a graphics error so borrowed an ATI 1650 (512mb $225 card) same problem.
CS3 will run if you dont use it but once I open a picture and drag it a little or make a couple of changes I get the "CS3 has encountered a problem error". I've run the beta clean up at level 4 several times, still no luck. The hardware I have plugged in is my Microsoft wireless mouse and KB and a USB router, no printer and not even my Wacom tablet is installed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Chris

start>settings> control panel> display> settings> advanced> troubleshooting. disable hw acceleration and see if that fixes it. if it does, you need to update your display driver.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I've got the most up to date drivers available for my card I believe, 93.71 for an NVIDIA GeForce 6200. I did try turning off the acceleration but that didn't help, same results.
Thanks all
Chris

ok that indicates it's probably NOT a vid driver problem.
chris, i have you tried resetting your prefrences? instructions are in the FAQ.

I'm having the same problem. I installed MS wireless KB and mouse after removing the beta and the initial install and don't recall any crashes before that. Maybe that's the connection?

could be, if you loaded drivers for it. uninstall them and let us know. :)
