Hello all,

Sometimes I only made changes to IPTC fields (and nothing to the image), is Photoshop clever enough to save my IPTC modification ONLY?

My concern is obvious, a save in jpg will reduce the quality of my image due to compression.

Thanx in advance

P.S. I use Photoshop 7

I don’t have Photoshop, so I don’t know, but you can check this easily yourself:

Make a copy of a picture, modify one picture with Photoshop and make a difference picture from both.
You can use e.g. ImageMagick (command line: convert pic1.jpg pic2.jpg – compose difference -composite -normalize diff.jpg), if the resulting diff.jpg is completly black there are no changes to the image data. I you prefer a GUI you can also use Mapivi (http://mapivi.de.vu) for this task.

Another approach would be to use a real image management tool for the task of changing IPTC data, like Mapivi, jBrout, Picasa, …. They will only modify the meta data, not the image data if you add
e.g. keywords or a caption.

Francis,

Don’t know the first thing about IPTC, so went looking around. ThumbsPlus 7 Pro list "Support for IPTC editing in batch process.". No clue if it re-compresses the jpeg.
Check it out <http://www.cerious.com/thumbnails.shtml#feature_list>

Good luck.

Irfanview can strip all but the IPTC info as well – save a few quid where you can. eh?

I just found free software at the following site.
<http://www.photo-freeware.net/download_win-eng.php?id=135>

when I used it to modified Adobe Tags, it said that it was "Lossless" change.
