Will there be a clean script to remove any "leftovers" from the CS3 beta for Windows like the on that was released today for the Mac?

My activation continually brings up the beta key and does not allow me to provide the new key I received with my upgrade. Adobe Tech Support keeps telling me to uninstall the beta which I have already done.

I’m hoping I don’t need to do this by hand:

Thanks,

I ran into a similar problem yesterday except I could not successfully uninstall CS3 beta. The uninstall process looked like it worked except the beta was not uninstalled. In addition, trying to run the beta after this generated a plethora of errors.

So after following the directions in the link you provided (it’s easier than it looks), it removed the beta but I then could not install CS3 (kept getting an error about the installer database being corrupt). However, I ran across a posting where it was recommended to remove the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db. After removing that file, the installation worked (and created a new caps.db).

Granted, I have no idea what impact deleting that file has had but Lightroom, PS CS3, AE7, Premiere Pro 1.5 and Acrobat 8 still work fine on my XP SP2 system after doing so.

I hope this helps.

Did you find that all those registry settings were in your registry, I started working down the list and I couldn’t find a single one in my registry.

I really just trying to find where they had the serial number for the beta so I can remove that.

Thanks.

no guarantees or warrenties of course. use at your own risk… 🙂 "blah, blah, blah. don’t sue me."

sorry if this breaks the margins…

copy the following into notepad. save it as something like "delcs3beta.reg" (must be a straight text file, not an rtf or anything else!) open regedit (start> run> regedit). go to file> import and select the file you just created.

hth, dave

May I respectfully suggest backing up the registry before running that.

you may. 🙂

just as way of confirmation. i tested with a dummy key. got the syntax for deleting from the registry from here:
<http://www.ss64.com/nt/regedit.html>

How to delete keys and values from the registry:

Create a reg file like this, notice the hyphen inside the first bracket

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SomeKey] When double clicking this .reg file the key "SomeKey" will be deleted along with all string, binary or Dword values in that key.

If you want to just delete values leaving the key in place, set the value you want to delete = to a hyphen
e.g.

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SomeKey]
"SomeStringValue"=-
Again double clicking this .reg file will delete the values specified – or you can use REGEDIT /s MyDeleteScript.REG.

I just wanted to second the advice below. It was the one thing that finally made the CS3 installation work. I had carefully deactivated, uninstalled and then manually removed, per the latest instructions, and still couldn’t install ("Installer corrupt" or some such). Deleting the one file below let it run flawlessly.

it was recommended to remove the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db. After removing that file, the installation worked

I have just received Photoshop CS3 extended and have installed it on my desktop. I hope that it is still OK to also install on a laptop as long as both aren’t being used at the same time. I had no problems with the installation on the desktop but the laptop won’t install. When I put the CD into the computer and click to install CS3, the initializing window comes up and the progree bar moves across fine. When it gets to the end the window disappears and that is it. Nothing else happens. Anyone seen this?
