Unable to Lock layers

Good Morning Everybody
I am unable to lock layers because my layers palettes is missing the column where a person is able to lock or unlock the layers. I have the little eye and the layer thumnail only, the option in between is missing. Please help

What version?

In PS 6, 7, 8 and 9 the locks appear in a row on the top of the Layers palette, not in a column. Sure they aren't theres?

Or are you referring to the Link icon? Shift-select the layers, click the icon on the bottom of the palette.
