Adjustment Layer not working correctly - CS2

Hi.

To save time I use 'Adjustment Layer' by using the button at the bottom of layers however after I've made the changes to the image I'm working when I then go to use for example the 'Eraser Tool' from the main tool box this function will not work.

It was working until recently but now I have to create the adjustment layer via the options bar in order for me to then use buttons such as Eraser Tool.

Does anyone know how this would of happened or indeed how I reset this so that the 'Adjustment Layer' tool form layers will work again.

I have re-installing PS but this has not done the trick.

Any help would be appreciated

Where are you trying to erase? On the mask? On the Adjustment Layer? Another layer?

Trash Preferences as per the FAQs might help but I have a feeling you are doing something wrong.
