Generally I'm editing using CS2 set to AdobeRGB.
I then convert to profile to suit the printer I'm using..

on some images I get a colour shift..
Images that look fine on my (calibrated) monitor in AdobeRGB look awful with garish greens in grassy scenes.
Can you offer any advice.?

There is no reason to convert the profile prior to printing. The Monaco Optixx system gives this instruction but it will lead most people into color management problems because they do not make the corresponding adjustments in their printer driver. Keep your image in Adobe RGB and set up your printer driver appropriately for the paper type you are using and to allow Photoshop to manage colors.
