Drop Shadow

I am looking for how to add a drop shadow to a photo so that when I place in PageMaker it will only have the shadow without any white border around the picture as a whole. When I create the drop shadow and then go place the finished picture in my PageMaker document, a white box shows up and is obvious from the backgrond it is placed on. I want sharp edges around the picture and the drop shadow on two sides and nothing else.

you would need to save the file as a PSD so that transparency is supported.

That said, I don't know if Pagemekaer supports transparency, or even allows you to import PSD files.

Pagemaker does not suppport transparency. For this to work you'd need InDesign and even then the multiply blend mode won't be supported.

You do know that Pagemaker is a dead application, don't you?

If all else fails, and the background color/pattern of your Pagemaker document is an image file that can be opened in Photoshop, then perhaps you can copy that use as a background layer beneath the layer for the photo. That way, the drop shadow effect on the photo layer will blend into the background layer. If your canvas size is large enough to create a background margin around your photo, a flattened version of the file then inserted into Pagemaker will hopefully blend in better with the document background, even if still not quite perfectly.

That's actually the only way to do it with Pagemaker. I can remember struggling with that when I first started out.

What a pain.

I'm glad those days are over.
