Text Spacing Problem

Why is the text spacing messed up in Elements? I have to type 3 or 4 spaces between words to make an acceptable space. Also, Elements treats many of my fonts as monospaced, making annoying spaces next to letters like Y and V.

Is there a fix for this or what? I don't feel like I'm getting my $100 worth.

I'm running Elements 2.0 under Mac OS X 10.3.4.

try the 'reset tool' option after choosing text tool. I can't remember where it is in PE2 but in the original version it is in the taskbar just above the screen on the left..a capital T with an arrow below it.
