my computer restarts whenever I use Adobe Photoshop CS2. It usually happens when I am using the brush tools. My PC is just a week old. I'm using windows XP Pro. My specs are:
Core 2 Duo E6300
Asus P5LD2 SE
2GB of DDR2
Nvidia Geforce 7600GT
80GB Seagate
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop. I've reformatted my PC and reinstalled photoshop and it still restarts.
I've used other softwares and have no problems with it.
I've updated my BIOS and my video card driver and its still the same I've turned off the automatic restart on system failure in hope that there is a blue screen where infos are written so that i can determine the problem but it still restarts.

New system or otherwise, using software like Photoshop should NOT cause a system to restart under any circumstances. This behavior almost certainly points to bad hardware.

I've used other softwares including after effects and 3d studio max and they all worked perfectly. it's just with photoshop cs2 that i encounter problems.

Photoshop is likely to be the most resource-hungry application you use. It will often show up problems with bad RAM, for instance, that might function perfectly with lesser programs.

Sorry for not including this on the original post but my photoshop restarts just by using the brush tool. I've tried it after a fresh restart.

in my computer> properties> advanced> startup and recovery> settings do you have automatically restart checked? if so uncheck it. it's likely masking a blue screen error. i'd guess video. update your video drivers (do all drivers actually, if it's a new machine, sound, printers scanners mouse, etc) from the manufacturer's website. just b/c the machine is new doesn't mean the company that built your system is using the latest drivers...

true, but many systems come with auto (windows) updates turned on so maybe, maybe not.

i've already unchecked the auto restart on errors. im the one who installed all the drivers and all of them are updated as far as i know. I've also updated my windows.
im now going to try CS3 beta and see if the same problem occurs. the weird thing really is why it crashes when i am just using the brush tool. i mean how memory extensive can using the brush tool?

if you have autorestart off and an application is causing a reboot, you probably have some faulty hardware. i'd check the ram first. then cpu/mobo. (there's also a slim chance the bios could have a problem. you may want to see if there's a bios update for your mother board)
