Sudden "not enough (RAM)" messages

Greetings,

A bit negativity first: I have had more problems with version CS2 of Adobe products than any previous versions combined (going as far back as version 4). I am using Creative Suite Pro CS2 (its not cheap).

That said, today out of the blue I can no longer 'save as' files as PSD. I get an "Cannot save as file (file name). Not enough (RAM)." I have never seen this message before, and the image file I am working with is only 50MB. I have 4GB of RAM installed.

Go figure...

Why would I get this message suddenly when I made no changes what so ever to my machine?? I have currently removed all Adobe products and will try a re-install. The sad part is I just got Illustrator working.

This is mostly a gripe and not a request for help. If the re-install fails to fix this new problem - which it probably will fail, I will need help.

Or improper shutdown of Photoshop (closing of windows without closing Ps)

Uninstalling might not change anything. Deleting Preferences should: hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift as soon as Photoshop starts, and accept the message.

Never tried deleting preferences before with PhotoShop. It worked with Illustrator.

By the way - tested RAM as soon as I got the first message. No problems there.

If you're using Windows, have you checked your machine's virtual memory (paging) settings? If your settings are too low (even with tons of available RAM), one can encounter this error message.

I received the same error message just by running xcopy from a command window and I had 1.5GB of free RAM.

Hey, same problem here... Today first time. Week ago I've installed 2gb of RAM (2 new sticks 1gb each - before I had 1gb together) . When I was trying to save, message "not enough RAM" happened...
