blue is purple in photoshop

I am using photoshop 7.0 and when I use the color picker to try and get pure RGB blue 255 it looks more purple. I recently got a new monitor and thought that might be the problem, but going into PainShop pro and selecting the same color it looked fine.. blue.. pure blue.

So why does it look purple in photoshop?

any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

More than likely it's your monitor settings. If you are using Adobe Gamma, make sure the gamma sliders are locked together as a single slider.

Run the Adobe Gamma setup again. Sounds like Photoshop is still configured for the old monitor

Thank you all for your answers.

I know adobe gama is in my control pannel, but I've never run it or set it up for either monitor. Would this still make a diffrence?

and why only purple in photoshop and the correct pure blue in paint shop?

Thanks again.

Sure- you could have some setting there that's incorrect and didn't show up until you got your new monitor..

Photoshop uses the settings from Adobe Gamma to convert its colors for display. PSP doesn't.
