Is there a way to globally change the default spacing in the brush settings in PS CS3? Or a way to change multiple brushes to share a setting and then to retain them permanently?

Click the lock icon in next to the brush dynamic in the Brushes panel.

That doesn’t serve to change multiple brushes simultaneously.

It locks dynamics so they stay consistent. Of course, it depends on WHAT you are trying to set and WHERE you are choose brushes from. You didn’t post that information though.

Right, but the issue was — could settings for multiple brushes be changed all at once. Like, is there a way to change the default setting of all the brushes’ hardness, say, or all the spacing settings. You know. Globally.

The answer, I’ve learned, is, "No. There’s no way to globally change settings of all your brushes at once."

Yes, there is.

But you need to alter how you select brushes. Set the hardness or spacing to whatever you want. Then from that point on choose brushes from the Brush Tip Shape menu, NOT the Brush Preset menu. Presets retain their settings. Simply not choosing a preset will retain whatever current settings you have in place.
